Material Exploration and Re-imagination | TEABAGS

|BRIEF|
For this project I will be critically analysing and mimicking the Material Driven Design |MDD| Methedology using a chosen waste material to identify any potential sensory and technical properties to then design possible concept applications.

I will be expeimenting with my chosen waste - teabags - to curate a wide range of samples - looking at the raw material, composites and furhter experimentations of their properties. This will help me represent new possible characteristics and forms.
Presenting my samples in a strategic way, I will collect non-bias user feedback based on any unique connotations, emotional and behavioural sensory experiences.

This project was a creative exercise for me to experiment and develop my skills on materiality and the effects this has on consumer engagement and tactility.
Below are some images and pages from my PPJ (personal project journal)
The potential uses which I designed and developed seem very relevant and would transform current mundane materials into a new unique, valued experience with the addition of the tea bag waste.
From combining different ratios of potato starch, vinegar, honey, water and tea granules - I have created a new material which is decorative, biodegradable, non-flammable, can insulate and has a full cycle of life and value.
The positive associations of tea are captured and exposed to the user when using these products creating a freshly formed experience through the new material.
